Work hard, have fun and make history at Amazon
Amazon is the world biggest retailer with $61 billion of sales in 2012. On February 13th 2014, a group of 30 students from Grenoble EM and SFU had the opportunity to meet one of the management teams at their Head Quarters in Seattle. Sarah Borowski, founder of Amazon Art, and some of her other colleagues, gave a very interesting pitch on Amazon’s corporate culture and its business innovation processes.
The New Age of Innovation is one of C.K.Prahalad last works. The central theme lies around what they define as N=1; R=G. Increasingly today business is having to adapt to the logic of the individual needs of each customer (N=1). At the same time, they are finding their resources on a global scale (R=G).
This book is an interesting and impartial look at the development of Amazon. Unfortunately, it gets off to a terrible start. Any 9th Grader will have heard a hundred times that a good essay begins with a clear and dynamic start and finishes with a punchy conclusion. What a pity that Mr. Brandt seems to have forgotten this advice. The book is actually a very enjoyable read with a lot of information about Amazon. It is you really want to have a good impression of it, you should skip the first and last chapters.
