Navir Rustomfram-Shukla, a recent alumnus from Grenoble Ecole de Management, is presently working at Airbus as a financial controller. He had previously studied at the University of Mumbai in India and graduated in Economics before veering off into business.

Philippe Grau, an alumnus from Grenoble Ecole de Management (graduated 1997), is currently a Commodity Sourcing Group Leader in Airbus’ Procurement, an Organization with over 2000 employees, including buyers, sourcing group leaders (like Philippe), multi-functional team leaders, supply chain specialists, and many other professionals.
Tom Enders has had an interesting academic background, prior to getting involved in Germany’s political affairs and the German defense sector and then his corporate career at Airbus and EADS. In his early 20s, besides the University of Bonn, he also went abroad to the United States to study economics, politics, and history, an experience that gave him a launch into ‘going international.’ He offers his advice for young business graduates in their 20s today.

In May, I had the opportunity to interview Tom Enders, CEO of EADS. The company is often better known for its Airbus division. EADS is a pan-European corporation that employs over 140 000 people and generated revenues of nearly €57 billion last year. It is a fascinating company for many reasons; its governance with diverse political interests, the strategic importance of the aeronautical industry and the very international structure of the organization. I am very grateful to Tom Enders and his team at EADS for a very open discussion I had.

I am very grateful to my friend, Philip Warwick, for suggesting this excellent book, which is a fascinating discussion on the purpose and the role of universities. From the start, Collini points out the paradoxical situation in which universities find themselves today. Never in history have they, as higher education institutions, attracted so many students, and yet universities increasingly spend large parts of their time justifying what they do.
EFMD Annual Conference 2013: Closing Remarks by the Chair, Philippe Haspeslagh, Dean of Vlerick Business School.
Philippe Haspeslagh, Dean of Vlerick Business School ended the excellent 2013 EDMD Annual Conference with some memorable closing remarks, and set up the stage for next year’s conference, to take place in Vienna. He began with a summary of the key elements covered by the conference.
In a closing lecture at the EFMD entitled “Preparing Our Schools for Upcoming Challenges,” Soumitra Dutta, the Dean of the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University spoke about the challenges facing business schools today at the EFMD Annual 2013 Conference. Issues of relevance and adherence to stakeholder interests were looked at, in mapping out the future environment for management education.
EFMD Annual Conference 2013: “Executive Education & Corporate Universities” by Philip Healy & David Jestaz
Corporate universities are increasingly becoming an option for global companies to maintain and enhance the talent within their organizations to be leaders, as well as provide an incentive for their employees to acquire further skills and other advancement opportunities. In this year’s annual EFMD conference, Philip Healy, Regional Director of the Centre for Creative Leadership (Belgium), and David Jestaz, the Director of EDF Group’s Corporate University, discussed the trend of the corporate university as a form of executive education.
This year at the EFMD Annual Conference, the trend of Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCS) were highlighted and built upon by Howard Lurie, the Vice President for External Affairs for edX, a Harvard and MIT online course initiative. The traditional model for higher education is now changing to reflect the emergence of open source content and learning online. The advantages and disadvantages of going online were discussed, how traditional university models could work with MOOCs to their benefit, and what the next steps forward are for edX amidst all this.
